NEWBORN PREP GUIDE

Thank you so much for booking your newborn session!

This is such an exciting time for you! You may just be a new family or this could be your third baby! In any case, I know just how precious your little one is to you and how imperative it is to properly document this little miracle.  I created this guide to help make the most out of your photo session.  If you have any questions or any suggestions please let me know.

What to Bring and Wear:

  • Please ensure your items are packed a day before your session so that you can leave easily in the morning.  In your diaper bag please ensure you have an extra outfit, at least 2 diapers, milk (if you are bottle feeding) and a pacifier (it will help us soothe the baby in between poses)
  • Please bring clothing that are most flattering on yourself, and then plan your family’s outfits around you and your colour scheme.  If you are wearing light colours, please have the rest of the family in lighter tones.  If you prefer darker tones (even black) please also have the family follow suit.  Do shy away from heavy patterns like florals and stripes.
  • I generally leave feet bare in photos, however, you may bring indoor shoes (or outdoor shoes in a separate bag with cleaned soles), or have everyone in either black socks (if you’re all in black) or white socks (if you’re wearing white)
  • For mom and any women family members it is fantastic to have dramatic makeup.  As the camera tends to overexpose our faces in certain light it’s great to have makeup that is dramatic than usual especially around the eyes, mouth and cheeks.
  • The session can last up to a few hours so please feel free to bring snacks and water

Baby:

  • I have a number of props, backdrops, headbands and wraps.  I do recommend you look prior to see what images, styles and items appeal to you best.  Feel free to browse my page and see what appeals to you. We will select your favorite, wraps, blankets, furs, baskets, headbands and hats once you arrive at the studio
  • Please try to have the baby awake and active as much as possible the morning of the session so that we can quickly and easily soothe your baby during our session.  We want the baby to sleep as much as possible during their photo session
  • Should you find your baby has some dry spots please apply gentle baby oil or lotion the night before and the morning of the session
  • A pacifier is great to have handy to soothe the baby.  If you are using a soother please do bring it to the session as it will allow us to settle the baby into better positions and we will not have to wake them up in order to soothe them into a position.  Bottled milk is great for this also so please do bring it if you are supplementing and/or if you prefer not to use a soother
  • If you are breastfeeding please avoid trigger foods the night before (anything spicy or foods that may cause gas etc.) and please refrain from drinking coffee before the session.  After you have fed the baby at least once during our session you may take advantage of a cup of java-please do let me know if you would like a fresh cup and I would be happy to make one for you!  If you are feeding the baby formula, I do have a fridge and microwave-let me know if you would like to use any of those services at any time
  • A few moms have given me their home remedies.  This includes the mom eating a tiny bit of white cumin seed for breastmilk production, along with Fennel seed and Thyme seed for calming a colicky baby.  The items should be taken with warm water – please do talk with a health professional beforehand.
  • Dress the baby in clothing that we can quickly take off without disturbing baby (you can layer the baby with lots of blankets during colder temperatures).
  • Your baby’s safety is most important to me.  During times when the baby may be in a basket or during the “froggy pose” I will have a parent assist me in ensuring the baby is secure.  Should you prefer that I attain an assistant just let me know prior to your session and I would be happy to hire one for your session at a fee of $80.

A deposit of $50 is required to confirm your booking.

A gallery of your unedited proofs will be sent to you the day after your session via a digital link. You will then be able to select your images for editing after our photoshoot from the comfort of your home.

Please note there is one entrance to the studio through the front door.

Thank you so much for allowing me to photograph your newest FAMILY MEMBER!
